SMARTtrain Chemical Application Reaccreditation


A course for people that have previously completed a level 3 chemical applications course and seeking reaccreditation.

Course aims

This course will increase participants understanding in relation to the safe transport, storage and use of hazardous chemicals and meet the training requirements of:

  • The NSW Pesticides Regulation 2017 (or equivalent legislation as relevant to each state/territory)
  • The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (or equivalent legislation as relevant to each state/territory)
  • The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) AgVet Code
  • Industry quality assurance programs such as Freshcare.

Course program/structure

  • Integrated pest and resistance management
  • Legislation in the workplace including record keeping requirements
  • Using chemicals according to the label and SDS
  • WHS and the workplace
  • Application equipment and calibration
  • Chemical application including spray plans and drift management and residues
  • Transport, storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals

Participants will receive the following resources:

  • A reference manual
  • An assessment guide
  • A NSW, QLD or SA State legislation supplement
  • A Calibration and Records supplement


This course is mapped to the following national units of competency:

  • AHCCHM303 - Prepare and apply chemicals
  • AHCCHM304 - Transport and store chemicals

NOTE: It is a legislative requirement for people using chemicals unsupervised to be accredited. Your SMARTtrain accreditation is valid for five (5) years.
